Pedal Push Program, Newham

Ride with confidence

Gapped is teaming up with Newham Council to deliver a free two-day cycling experience for local young people aged 11–16, led by qualified British Cycling coaches.

Taking place on Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th August at Stratford School, Grosvenor Road, E7 8JA, the programme is all about fun, freedom, and learning new skills in a safe and supportive environment. Riders will build confidence through games, off-road practice, group riding skills, and road awareness training—all leading up to an epic 20km group ride across Newham to wrap things up.

It’s more than just cycling: it’s two full days of adventure, challenge, laughs, and teamwork. Bikes and helmets are provided—all you need is a packed lunch, snacks, and water.

The programme is free, but spaces are limited to 10 riders and reserved for Newham residents who are already confident on a bike.

Let’s ride, explore, and level up this summer.

FAQ

Who is this for?
This one-day program is open to Newham residents only, Year 7 to Year 11 (typically 11–16 years old). Participants must already be confident cyclists — this session is not suitable for beginners.

Is this open to all genders?
Yes! Pedal Push welcomes everyone. The programme is open to all young people who meet the age and residency requirements.

My child has mild additional needs. Can they take part?
Yes — as long as your child is a confident cyclist and can ride safely in a small group, they are welcome to attend. Please let us know any additional needs on the sign-up form.

Do they need their own bike or helmet?
Nope — we’ll provide everything your child needs to take part safely, including a bike and helmet.

What should they wear and bring?
Participants should wear comfortable clothing suitable for riding a bike, and bring:

  • A packed lunch
  • Water and snacks
  • A light rain jacket (just in case!)

What happens if it rains?
We’ll keep an eye on the forecast and aim to find dry gaps in the day to get riding. Light rain won’t stop us — please come prepared!

Where is it and what time should we arrive?
The session runs from 10:00am to 3:00pm at Stratford School, Grosvenor Road.

Will there be toilets available?
Yes — participants will have access to toilet facilities throughout the day.

Where will the riding take place?
We’ll start in the playground and quiet streets around the school before heading out on a 20km ride that explores Newham’s parks, local roads, and key landmarks.

How many adults will be supervising?
There will be two qualified ride leaders/coaches with the group all day, ensuring safety, support, and good vibes throughout.

What if my child gets tired or has a problem during the ride?
No problem — our coaches will manage the group pace and provide support if a participant gets tired or has a bike issue. We'll never leave anyone behind, and there are regular stopping points built into the route.

How do I sign up?
Hit the sign-up button below. If your child gets a place, we’ll email you with confirmation and a form to complete before the day.
